Roscosmos General Director Dmitry Rogozin called on Russian billionaires to start investing in the development of space technologies following the example of foreign businessmen. He shared his opinion in an interview. TASS after the successful suborbital flight of the Virgin Galactic spacecraft Unity-22.
“I hope that someday our billionaire oligarchs will start spending their money not on regular yachts and vanity fairs, but on the development of space technologies and knowledge about space,” Rogozin said.
He noted that this suborbital flight has nothing to do with professional astronautics, but is a landmark event both in terms of technology development and in terms of expanding the capabilities of mankind.
British billionaire Richard Branson embarked on a suborbital flight on July 11 aboard Virgin Galactic’s VSS Unity spacecraft. He reached the boundary of space and returned to Earth. The flight was broadcast live on the organization’s YouTube channel. Another two richest people on the planet – the head of SpaceX Elon Musk and the founder of Amazon Jeff Bezos – on Twitter congratulated Branson on a successful flight.
