First Sweden, then the Nordic Team (Sweden and Denmark) and the United States. All fell in the face of Norway’s blows in the team competition between the nations of the Race of Champions 2022, scheduled in the magnificent setting of Pite Havsbad, Sweden. And to give Norway the title was a father and a son, Petter and Oliver Solberg: a romantic story lived at full speed, on the snow overlooking the Baltic Sea.
For the 2003 WRC world champion this is the second success in the ROC Nations Cup, while Oliver has achieved the maximum result on his debut in the competition. These are the words of papa Petter: “You have no idea how much this means to me. I won the Nations Cup in 2014 with Tom Kristensen, but I have to tell the truth: the emotions I felt then weren’t even comparable to those of today. Working so closely with Oliver and winning together was something very, very special. For a father, competing and winning with his son against some of the best drivers in the world is something that makes you very proud. Oliver was very calm in all races. He hasn’t made any mistakes, he just goes ahead and drives. I enjoyed teaming up with him, this is a really fantastic start to the Race of Champions, seeing Norway beat everyone in Sweden makes me happy“.
Oliver, looking at his dad with pride and happiness, added: “Winning is everything to my dad and me, doing it in Sweden is really cool, I think my mum is really having a big smile right now! Today’s result gives a lot of pleasure, it was incredible to watch the crowd cheer everyone on and to be able not only to compete against the strongest, but also to win.“.
