From the interest found on a global scale towards automated solutions that make use of the‘AI andautomatic learning to separate mixed recyclable materials in treatment plants in order to minimize the gap between collected and recycled materials, the collaboration of Amiu Genova and Danieli Telerobot. This is a fundamental approach for the treatment of some special waste or WEEE (Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment).
The two companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to expand a structured and interactive collaboration in the analysis of the systems, technologies and plants used; thus identifying the possible increase in efficiency, thanks to the introduction of innovative technologies, integrated control systems and robotics in the various operations of collection and selection of municipal solid waste.
Several multinational companies already operate in the supply of customized solutions in the recycling sector and, practically, all these companies offer: robotic arms enslaved by automatic vision, spectroscopic cameras and, finally, data provided by specific sensors to separate objects on conveyor belts based on to the perception of size, shape, color and level of conductivity.
When it comes to electronic waste and special waste treatment, further complexities emerge such as: the correct classification of the various materials or the dismantling of the various devices. The AMIU Genova – Danieli Telerobot collaboration aims – even if it is not limited to this – to identify and develop advanced robotic systems capable of improving the quality and purity of secondary goods sent and, consequently, increasing safety for operators, with particular reference to the management and reuse of waste as a whole.
