The Defense Minister assures that it will be done “within availability” and if it can “help that heroic defense the Ukrainians are doing”
The Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, has left open this Wednesday the possibility of making new shipments of arms to Ukraine so that it can face the Russian invasion, always depending on its needs and the “availability” of Spain.
Upon his arrival at Congress to report on the situation in Ukraine before the Defense Commission and review the international missions in which the Armed Forces participate, Robles underlined Spain’s “solidarity” with Ukraine in the face of the attack perpetrated by the Russian president , Vladimir Putin.
“Within the availability, if Ukraine needs it, we will send the material we have and that can help that heroic defense the Ukrainians are doing,” he confirmed about the possibility of making new shipments of offensive material.
Last weekend, four A-400M planes of the Air Force loaded with material to deliver to the Ukrainian resistance already left Spain. It involved a total of 1,370 anti-tank grenade launchers, 700,000 rifle and machine gun cartridges, and light machine guns, all of them owned by the Army.
In this framework, Robles has insisted on his message of support for Ukraine and condemns Russia’s aggression and has asked all the parties to have a sense of state.
“The citizens are giving us the example of solidarity with the Ukrainian people and I hope that all the parties use the same solidarity,” he claimed after the PP accused the government of “using the war” to justify the price increase.
The Minister of Defense has thus claimed the need for unity to face Russia, both within Spain and internationally within the European Union and NATO to deal with actions by Putin that she believes “clearly” violate the right international and hopes that they will have an answer in international courts.
“Today we are all Ukraine”
“Today we are all Ukraine, the pain of the Ukrainians is our pain,” he proclaimed, recalling that Russia is a nuclear power and this “aggression” deserves the condemnation of all international actors. The Ukrainian people, with their defense, have said that they not only defend their territory but “freedom and democracy” throughout the world.
“Ukraine, its people, Europe and the whole world are waging in Ukraine a struggle for a peaceful world, in coexistence, defending the values of freedom, plurality, democracy and the rule of law that we share in the EU and NATO as the only possible path to peace in the world – he maintained -. The brutal and unilateral threat and invasion is an attack on these values.”
With this, he has defended that both the European Union and NATO made “every effort possible” to find a diplomatic and negotiated solution to the conflict, but Putin ignored it by following a strategy of “conquest” and now “has to pay for it ».
In the first place, he recalled the economic and political measures adopted, a response “never seen before” to prevent Putin from continuing the war and support the Ukrainian people.
