Robin van O., the man who, according to justice, is behind the Brabant torture containers of the underworld, is terminally ill. Van O. was transferred to a prison hospital in Scheveningen. His lawyers confirm that on Tuesday NRC after reporting from The Parool. The Public Prosecution Service is prosecuting him on suspicion of leading a criminal organization, involvement in drug trafficking and setting up torture containers in Brabant.

The 41-year-old Van O. suffers from untreatable cancer, which has spread and has disabled vital parts of the body. He probably won’t see the end of his trial; the substantive treatment of the group that Van O. would lead is on the agenda in January. Last week, the former gym owner from Utrecht was transferred from the penitentiary in Leeuwarden to a prison hospital in Scheveningen.
Justice considers Van O. as the manager of a criminal organization. Under his leadership, the group is said to have built and furnished the seven torture containers that were found by the police in Brabant last summer. One of these contained a dental chair on which a victim could be secured and tortured with available tools. The other six containers were set up as prison cells. The spaces were completely soundproof; the screams of victims could not be heard by the outside world.
Suspects from the organization are also on trial for preparing kidnappings, extortion, aggravated assault and murder. Van O., who was known in the criminal environment as someone who was quickly aware of sensitive information, is also said to have been on Ridouan Taghi’s death list.
