The widow of former United States Senator Robert Kennedy (1925 – 1968) and sister-in-law of former President John F. Kennedy (1917 – 1963), Ethel Kennedy died this Thursday (October 10, 2024) at the age of 96. She was hospitalized after suffering a stroke. He leaves behind 9 children, 34 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, as well as nephews.
The death was confirmed by one of his grandchildren, Joe Kennedy 3rd, in a publication on X (formerly Twitter). “It is with our loving hearts that we announce the passing of our incredible grandmother, Ethel Kennedy. She died this morning due to complications related to a stroke suffered last week,” he wrote.
He continued: “She was a devout Catholic and daily communicant, and it comforts us to know that she was reunited with the love of her life, our father, Robert F. Kennedy; his sons David and Michael; his daughter-in-law Mary; his grandchildren Maeve and Saoirse; and his great-grandchildren Gideon and Josie.“

WHO WAS ETHEL KENNEDY
Ethel Kennedy was born on April 11, 1928, in Chicago (USA). She was at her husband’s side when he was assassinated in Los Angeles on June 5, 1968, shortly after winning the California presidential primary.
Later, still in 1968, he created the institute “Robert F. Kennedy for Justice and Human Rights”focused on human rights and freedom of expression.
Ethel was active in the organization until she was 90 years old. In 2016, he participated in a demonstration in support of increasing wages for rural workers in Florida.
