Robert Habeck defends the planned start-up financing for the long-term unemployed. His argument: It is a practical suggestion.
Berlin – The dispute over the citizens’ benefit reform continues. Now the Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck (Greens) appeals to his critics – and defends start-up financing for the long-term unemployed in Berlin. According to the Green politician, this is a proposal from labor science that was first welcomed in the negotiations between the coalition partners and then through a cabinet decision.
Habeck’s appeal: Coalition members should ask themselves beforehand whether they should play the game instead of always saying goodbye to jointly made decisions when there is a critical demand. “If you want to solve the matter pragmatically under the political guidelines that we have, i.e. that we don’t approach the transfer withdrawal rate. And if we don’t just want to wait it out – then a practical, pragmatic suggestion is better than none at all,” Habeck said loudly Focus.
Citizens’ benefit reform from 2025: the long-term unemployed, social systems and the national economy should benefit

In the future, recipients of citizens’ benefit will have to prepare for the consequences if they refuse a job. Because: Higher penalties are to be expected. The bonus, on the other hand, is a one-off payment from which, according to Habeck, many should benefit: people who take another job, the social systems and the economy. Researcher Professor Enzo Weber praises the bonus and sees it as a good solution to get the long-term unemployed out of unemployment.
Planned start-up financing is causing a lot of criticism
Despite criticism from many corners, the traffic light coalition probably wants to stick to the plans. In contrast, Martin Rosemann wants to stop the start-up financing planned by the federal government for the long-term unemployed. The reason given by the social policy spokesman for the SPD: “The start-up financing was an express wish of Robert Habeck. As SPD specialist politicians, we share the concerns that the Ministry of Labor has always expressed,” he said Picture said.
CDU General Secretary Carsten Linnemann also shares his concerns – and takes a clear position against the 1,000 euro bonus, as he does Daily Mirror reported. Linnemann also called on the traffic light to stop the citizens’ money bonus. The SPD had previously called for the plan to be dropped in the Bundestag. Politicians from the Greens, FDP and the Union also criticize and reject the start-up financing. (with dpa)
