Road cycling For just 300 grams – the winner of the French tour tactics between the two braking systems

According to Tadej Pogačar, weight is the only reason why he drives wheels with different brakes, depending on the situation.

Road cycling a Slovenian among the current superstars Tadej Pogačar has reported on his technology-related tactics.

Among other things, the 23-year-old Pogačar, who won two of the most recent laps in France, has used wheels with different braking systems in his races this season, depending on the situation.

At least cycling media Cycling News and Cycling Weekly have reported in recent days how Pogačar won the Tour first one rainy mountain stage in the Alps on a Colnago bike with disc brakes.

Later, during a three-week round trip, he won a mountain stage in the Pyrenees with a racing game with rim brakes.

The brakes were also used by the bronze medalist of the Tokyo Olympics on the road a couple of weeks ago when he won Il Lombardia, Italy’s last big one-day classic race of the season.

A few days earlier, he was driving in the Tre Valli Varesine race with disc brakes.

Similarly, in the time trial of the Olympics, Pogačar drove with rim brakes but in the World Championships with disc brakes.

According to Cycling News, very few riders switch from one braking system to another in this way. In recent years, all top-level professional stables have gradually switched to using disc brakes.

According to Pogačar, the reason for the variation is that a bike with disc brakes weighs about 300 grams more than a similar rim-broke outing game.

The International Cycling Federation UCI, which holds number one place in the road rankings, has been set by Pogačar as a minimum weight of 6.8 kilograms.

“Weight is important because in ascents, the ratio of strength to weight is crucial. It’s especially important to me because I’m not one of the lightest drivers. The 300-gram weight difference is pretty much, ”Pogačar recently told Italian BiciPro, according to Cycling News.

According to personal data on the Procyclingstats website, Pogačar is 176 cents tall and weighs 66 pounds. For example, winning a tour of France in 2019 and taking a tour of Italy this year Egan Bernal weighs 60 pounds.

Pogačar has said that the weather conditions do not affect which brakes he wants to drive.

“I’m pleased with how both work in the rainy weather. For me, it’s just about weight. In Il Lombardy, I chose the rim brakes because there were two steep climbs at the end with the intention of perhaps striking. The rim brakes are lighter, ”Pogačar said.
