Roskomnadzor (RKN) demanded that the leadership of the social network TikTok immediately remove the restrictions imposed on the video of the address of Russian President Vladimir Putin. It is reported on March 9 press office departments.
They clarified that TikTok restricted access to the audio track of this video for foreign users.
“The letter from Roskomnadzor notes that such actions by the leadership of the social network fundamentally violate the key principles of the free distribution of information and unhindered access to it,” the publication says.
On March 6, it became known that TikTok would suspend the distribution of new content and live broadcasts in Russia in light of the new law on “fake news”. This is a law that was approved on March 4. Thus, the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation is supplemented by Art. 207.3 “Public dissemination of knowingly false information about the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation”, which provides for imprisonment for up to three years or a fine of up to 1.5 million rubles.
Ivan Samoylenko, managing partner of the B&C Agency communications agency, in an interview with Izvestia, noted that the restriction of the TikTok platform in Russia leads to negative consequences not only for Russian business, but also for foreign ones. According to the specialist, the restrictions introduced will lead to a loss of advertising revenue and a decrease in the total number of users.
On March 4, Roskomnadzor blocked the social network Facebook and also restricted access to the Twitter microblogging network. The department clarified that Facebook observed cases of discrimination against Russian media and information resources.
On February 24, Russia launched an operation to protect civilians in the Donbass. A few days earlier, the situation in the region escalated significantly due to shelling by the Ukrainian military. The authorities of the Donetsk and Luhansk republics announced the evacuation of residents to the Russian Federation, and also turned to Moscow for help. On February 21, Vladimir Putin signed a decree recognizing the independence of the DNR and LNR.
