The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) registered 37,120 new corona infections and 154 deaths within one day. Seven-day incidence is nearing its all-time high.
Berlin – The nationwide seven-day incidence of the current wave of infections has exceeded the high of the third corona wave in spring.
On April 26, it was 169.3; for today the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported an incidence of 169.9. The highest incidence value in the entire pandemic was in the second wave on December 22nd, 2020 at 197.6.
For comparison: the previous day the value was 154.5, a week ago it was 139.2. The health authorities in Germany reported to the RKI within one day the new high of 37,120 new corona infections. This is evident from the numbers that reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 3:50 a.m. The day before, the number of new infections had already reached the record level of 33,949 – more than ever before in the pandemic. However, it was initially not clear to what extent late registrations due to the holiday of All Saints had played a role in the development. A week ago, the value was 24,668 infections.
According to the new information, 154 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours. A week ago there were 121 deaths. The RKI has counted 4,709,488 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not detected.
The number of corona patients admitted to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days – the most important parameter for a possible tightening of the corona restrictions – was given by the RKI on Thursday 3.73 (Wednesday: 3.62). With the indicator it must be taken into account that hospital admissions are sometimes reported with delay. A nationwide threshold value from when the situation can be viewed critically is not provided for the incidence of hospitalization, among other things because of large regional differences. The previous high was around 15.5 around Christmas time.
The RKI stated the number of those who had recovered at 4,342,600. The number of people who died with or with the involvement of a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 96,346. Dpa
