The smaller Rivian is finally coming!
One of the many brands labeled as 'the new Tesla' is Rivian. Rivian is nowhere near as far as Tesla. They only sell cars in the US for now. While the Model Y is the best-selling car in Europe, Rivian is not yet doing anything in Europe.
The R1T and R1S are also not very interesting for Europe, but a model will soon be released that is a lot more interesting for us. The next Rivian will be the R2, a compact SUV. Now 'compact' means something different in the US than in Europe, but it will probably become a competitor to the Model Y.
Rivian itself has not yet shared a teaser, but a patent image has already surfaced. It shows that the R2 looks a lot like its bigger brother. So it will not be a smooth crossover, but a robust SUV á la Land Rover Defender and Ford Bronco.
The Rivian will probably be slightly more expensive than the Model Y, but that is almost inevitable. The car is expected to cost somewhere between $40,000 and $60,000 in the US. The Model Y is available there from $32,890.
Little is officially known about the Rivian R2, but we now know a reveal date. The Americans announce that the car will be unveiled on March 7. So in about a month. It will take some time before the Rivian R2 actually comes onto the market. That won't be until 2026.
