A new article dedicated to Rise of the Ronin, the open-world action game from Team Ninja (Nioh, Wo-Long Fallen Dynasty). In this case, the post deals with delving into the weapons and fighting styles.
A was also published “Behind the scenes” video dedicated precisely to combat, which you can see below. Most of the video features the developers of Rise of the Ronin, but there's room for a bit of gameplay as well.
It is explained that this is possible in Rise of the Ronin exhaust enemy “Ki”. to be able to deal great damage with a critical hit (something already seen in previous Team Ninja combat systems). Of course, our Ki can also run out and this prevents us from attacking and running.
We can then use the “counterspark” action or one parry to deflect enemy shots and leave them vulnerable, so as to do damage and reduce maximum Ki. Added to this are martial skills that inflict a lot of damage.
As we progress through Rise of the Ronin we will have the opportunity to learn various fighting styles dedicated to the various weapons. These are gathered in Ten (sky), Chi (earth) and Jin (human). Using the best one against each enemy helps in battle and will make parries more effective.
Rise of the Ronin fighting styles and other weapons
In Rise of the Ronin we will be able to use fighting styles such as:
- Mumyo style – versatile and perfect for tag team fighting
- Hokushin Itto Style – overwhelm enemies with lots of quick attacks
- Yagyu Shinkage style – for powerful blows, created by the famous military instructor of the Tokugawa clan (dynasty whose reign is ending in Rise of the Ronin)
There will be in total nine categories of weapons in Rise of the Ronin, including dual blades, oxtail sabers, two-handed greatswords, and Odachi.
We will also have long range weapons, like the bow for stealth attacks. Pistols are perfect for stunning enemies for longer and attacking them to reduce Ki. We will also have incendiary tubes to eliminate groups of enemies or explode barrels of gunpowder.
We might as well use the grappling hook to fight, not just exploring. We can throw barrels at enemies or use it to quickly approach opponents and attack them. The goal of the developers of Rise of the Ronin is to create a combat system with many options and not force you to fight in a fixed way.
Finally, here is also a new trailer showing the open world and the settings.
