SAO PAULO (Reuters) – Soybean producers in Rio Grande do Sul have completed planting the oilseed, after advancing one percentage point in the week, technical assistance and rural extension company Emater-RS said on Thursday, as the harvest of summer corn exceeded 50% of the areas.
The soybean work was completed later than in previous years, due to adverse weather conditions.
According to the agency linked to the state government, the crops in Rio Grande do Sul have received rains to a lesser extent and volume in recent days, and the general picture of the harvest continues with productive potential affected by the drought.
“The harvest of earlier cultivars presents results far below expectations, but they still represent very small areas, without statistical relevance”, stated Emater in a report.
In corn first crop, planting is practically finished, with 99% of the areas, an advance of one point in the week and also with a delay in the annual comparison.
The summer cereal harvest is advanced and reached 54%, versus 48% in the previous week. A year earlier, the percentage was 41% and the historical average for the period is 40%.
“The loss of productivity in these first crops is quite high and consolidates the reduction of 53% in relation to the initially projected”, stated Emater.
The crops sown more recently showed a good initial establishment and more uniform development.
