Rimac has finally completed the lengthy homologation process for its electric supercar Nevera. The program of American crash test, which started in 2019, has been intense, with the car having undergone 45 separate tests, with very important ratings on lateral and frontal resistance. For the European market, the crash tests were successfully completed in 2021.
The last test, held at the end of January 2022, was precisely on the consistency of the lateral safety measures. The car had to endure side impact against a pole, at a speed of 35 kilometers per hour. The test basically simulates the impact against a lamppost, an eventuality that is actually quite common even among supercar owners given the great power available, which can lead to unpleasant spin. It is a complex test, which however Nevera has passed since its structure has held up very well. In particular, it was noted how the door on the accident side could be opened despite the impact.
Mate Rimac said the team behind Nevera used high-performance Cluster computers for the first time to digitally simulate the effects of an impact. In this sense, simulation also helps in terms of cost of materials, since it is not necessary to produce components to be used for crash tests. The system turned out to be accurate, since Nevera was then found to be sufficiently safe even in the actual test.
While a normal supercar has a torsional stiffness of around 40,000 Nm / degree, according to the automaker, Nevera’s is 70,000 Nm / degree. This means that it has a survival cell capable of supporting three times the weight of the car. We remind you that Rimac Nevera was designed and built internally by Rimac Automobili, with a limited production of only 150 units. It is equipped with a 120 kWh battery and 6960 cells, capable of generating, through the motors, 1914 horsepower and 2360 Nm of torque. Nevera reaches a top speed of 412 km / h, with a time from 0 to 100 km / h of 1.85 seconds. It has been independently verified as the fastest accelerating production car in the world.
