Pietro Valsecchi warns Chora Media and Pablo Trincia for having “taken away the project” of a podcast and a docu-series on the Rigopiano tragedy
Pietro Valsecchi accusation Middle Chora And Pablo Trincia of having “taken the project” from him with the podcast and the docu-series “And then the silence – The Rigopiano disaster” which tells the details of the tragedy that led to the death of 29 people in the Abruzzo hotel.
Valsecchi to Adnkronos he explained that he had started his project for a podcast and a docu-fiction on Rigopiano in 2017 in collaboration with the victims’ association and the law firm Reboa: “No one, neither the families of the victims, nor the association, nor the law firm, would have allowed a Pablo Trincia to use the materials for the production of the podcast and docu-series, since I had already been working on this project for years.”
The film producer, who filed the formal notice through his lawyers on Saturday, had collected the filmed testimonies of the victims’ families, to whom he would donate all the proceeds. Valsecchi on the advice of my colleague Mario Gianani he had then met Middle Chora And Pablo Trincia to evaluate the idea of sharing the project: “Trincia was initially enthusiastic and visited my office several times. Without my knowledge – says Valsecchi – Trincia met the families of the victims and the same law firm that now represents me. Everyone believed he was working for me, so they gave him access to files, interceptions, voicemails and all the material collected. Then, suddenly – continues the producer – I found myself faced with the podcast and the presentation of the docu-fiction they created all behind my back, probably to save money. I had made a commitment to the Reboa studio and the victims’ families: to donate all the proceeds to them, which will obviously not happen now”.
Valsecchi therefore asks for the suspension of the programming of the podcast, whose 8 episodes are already available from 28 September, and of the docu-series which will be broadcast by Sky in November.
“The reconstruction of the events of Rigopiano in our podcast and docuseries is based on widely disseminated and publicly accessible journalistic sources, and therefore no exclusive ownership can be claimed – reads the press release released by Middle Chora And Pablo Trincia – We acted with transparency, contacting the survivors and families of the victims. The interviews in the podcast and docuseries – which however constitute only a small part of our investigative work – are original and released with full consent and signed releases. None of the materials in Mr. Valsecchi’s possession were used in our podcast, and nothing was ‘taken’, as insinuated in his cease-and-desist letter.”
