The Australian couldn’t hold back his tears
Many Formula 1 fans have become fond of the contagious smile of Daniel Ricciardoone of the drivers who has always had as a prominent characteristic that of sympathy combined with talent. However, the recent crisis of results has done nothing but fuel rumours and indiscretions about the Singapore Grand Prix as thelast GP of his career of the Australian in F1. An official announcement that could seriously arrive before Austin not only for the decisions coming from Red Bull (as confirmed by Team Principal Christian Horner to Chris Medland), intending to replace Ricciardo with Liam Lawson, but also for the reaction of the 35-year-old Racing Bulls driver at the end of the race.
Author of the fastest lap at Marina Bay, the winner of 8 career GPs seemed visibly moved to the microphones of F1 TVto the point of not being able to hold back a certain emotion: “There are a lot of emotions because I know it could be over. – he declared – I think it’s also tiring after the race. There’s a lot of emotions, feelings and tiredness. The cockpit is something I’ve gotten used to for many years. I just wanted to savor the moment.”
A sad comment that was added to the one released to Sky Sports F1: “I’m not at all sure I’ll see you again after today. I would like to say differently, but there is a good chance that there is not, but that’s okay.” Numerous journalists asked Ricciardo if the Marina Bay race was really his last in F1, with other statements: “I don’t want to say that it’s sad news or anything. – he explained to Viaplay – I look back and I’m also very grateful that I not only made it in this sport, but that I was here for this long and for about 250 races. So if that’s the case, I don’t want to make a sad story; it’s been fun. There’s a chance I won’t race in Austin, but we’ll see.”
