According to BDQueimadas, from Inpe, 5 of the 10 cities with the most cases of fires in the State are in Greater Ribeirão Preto
Since August 21, the interior of the State of São Paulo has registered at least 3,641 fire outbreaks, according to data from the platform BDBurningsfrom Inpe (National Institute for Space Research). In the ranking of the 10 cities most affected by fire, at least 5 are from metropolitan region of Ribeirao Preto.
The survey considers the period from August 21st to this Monday (September 9th, 2024). In total, 664 fire outbreaks were observed in the 10 cities.
The municipalities of the metropolitan region of Ribeirão Preto include:
- Altinopolis;
- Surinam cherry trees;
- Little backlands;
- Cajuru; and
- Pontal.

Since August, the interior of São Paulo has been facing a wave of fires. The fires have affected around 25 cities.
Environment Minister Marina Silva said there was a strong suspicion of intentional action and denied any failure by the president’s government Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) in preventing fires.
Last week, the São Paulo Public Security Department reported that the number of people arrested for involvement in vegetation fires in the state had risen to 11.
The Civil Defense renewed the high risk alert for fires in the state until Tuesday (September 10). The Risk Map, one of the tools that helps the agency monitor vegetation fires during the drought, indicates the possibility of fire risks throughout the state of São Paulo.
