This year for Nintendo has been quite glorious, since in just six months they have released quite quality games such as Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and The Lost Demon. Kirby Return to Dream Land Deluxe and of course, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom. However, there were also titles that came as a surprise. Among those quick releases we had Metroid Primer Remastered and more recently, Pikmin 1 + 2, both of which were made available to users at company video events. Almost the same thing happened with the Everybody 1-2-Switch! which nobody expected because the predecessor did not end up being liked when it was launched back in 2017. I must say that it was quite surprising news, not because it is a game that many expected but because of how fleeting the announcement was and also its release date, which was only two weeks apart. To this is added that no one had even a crumb of wanting to have a new installment of this type on the console that is presumably already on the way out.
However, something curious is that in their commercials they talk about a large number of simultaneous users who can try this experience, all thanks to the benefits of current technology. So yes or yes it was going to attract the attention of those who never tried the first installment that even went unnoticed by Nintendo fans. So finally the day came when the game was officially launched, and the guys at Nintendo have provided us with a code so that we can let you know if this installment is worth buying. Especially for those who are waiting for a good multiplayer project whose purpose is to bring together a group of friends to have a laugh. As this video game is more for a purpose in which the level of fun has to be counted, the mechanics will not be all we have in mind, since basically everything is based on the movement of the Joy-Con. Our focus will go a bit more towards the variety of mini games and whether they can be good enough for player count.
To this is also added that the text is made by someone who did not try the first installment because paying full price for a game of this caliber never seemed attractive to him. In fact, to this day many still think that it should have been included in the console as it happened in the Wii era with the much-loved Wii Sports. So will Everybody 1-2-Switch! that multiplayer party title that Nintendo hopes to sell as some kind of redemption from past mistakes? Or maybe, is it just a boring experience that will become obsolete the same day the user makes a physical or digital purchase? Well, then prepare some Joy-Con and cell phones, because we will see if it is at least a decent title in the new Atomix Review that we have prepared for you.
To prepare the party with the Joy-Con
To start with this review of Everybody 1-2-Switch! It must be said that it is a very special title, since it cannot be approached by a single user, since more than one is required to be able to test the title. Therefore, the intention of giving mini games a spin against some type of CPU is completely ruled out.
There are two modes that can be tackled, the first one focuses on using 8 Joy-Con at the same time, with the option to split into teams or go solo to achieve victory. It should be noted, the games can go from a fairly small session like 20 minutes to some of an hour if the players are hooked.
What makes this installment interesting is that it is betting more on the use of small controls and its HD vibration that we were presumed to have since the console came out back in 2017. Added to that is that there is a reduction in the number of games, since now there are 17, only some of them have 4 variants available.
This installment brings us new experiences such as hiding one of the Joy-Con and thus the rival has to search for it around the room using the vibration so that it can be found. We also have a balloon that must be inflated as a lever, beware, the objective is basically to reach its limit but not to go overboard and pop it, as that leads to losing instantly.
There are also other mini reflex games such as one in which a child is looking towards a tree, the same one that we must approach with the controls and stop when it turns in the style of the Squid Game. There are also some in which we can use ninja stars so that the opponent tries to block.
There is one of them that I really liked, and that was to participate in a kind of preparation of dishes, since they give us a stopwatch to measure the seconds that they ask of us and thus whoever has the closest time gets the points. For its part, there is another in which a relay race is simulated where you have to pass the Joy-Con.
On a general level, they are minigames that are fun and the more users there, the better, but I feel that they have fallen short in terms of variety, since as we mentioned, before there were 28 and now there are 17 with variants that really aren’t that good . Of course, to spend time at leisure and with many friends it can have something nice.
Up to 100 people can pass
Something that should be taken into consideration with this title is that not all the mini games can be tested with the Joy-Con, since there are a couple of them that are exclusive to the use of the other type of controls. This is just the use of cell phones of any kind to be able to join the party, in fact up to 100 people can play as long as they are Smartphone.
The magic of being able to connect, regardless of the device or operating system, is that the game works through Internet browsers, since you only have to scan the QR code to start playing. Of course, the internet connection must be stable, whether you are using data or also a wireless network with a router.
Among the exclusive mini games we have one in which you have to look for an object of a certain color, the bingo game that is best used to relax at the end of the party and even one in which we have to memorize the order in which they ask us for ice cream . The concept of some of them are fine, but frankly they don’t end up being incredibly fun.
There is also a certain game that is interesting but could have been better implemented, it is about answering questions that increase the difficulty more and more. The bad thing about it is the part that there are only two options to choose from, so you only have to follow your intuition to be able to win over others, and of course, the reflexes to press the button beforehand is also something to consider.
Honestly, it would have been interesting if the game was implemented online so that the party could be divided among more people, since having 100 in one place is quite unlikely. To this is added, that using the same Wi-Fi line will logically cause the game to be delayed, especially if it is not a package of many megabytes of upload and download.
Now that Nintendo has opted to have more online experiences, it really seemed strange to me that they didn’t want to play games with strangers, since even games like Mario Kart have such options. Something that I also didn’t like at all, is that you can’t try mini games in a livery way until they are unlocked in the team battle mode.
For its part, it is worth commenting that there are salvation cards for those who are not doing very well in the play, with help such as granting extra points or even accumulating a certain amount for the next mini game. It is worth commenting that if there is a tie, users will be able to earn more points in the next game.
As for the way to select mini games, it is random through a kind of roulette that stops in one of them. Although there is the option of letting the user lose the opportunity to choose one of them, as long as he hits the action button when the corresponding arrow is spinning.
This is how we would summarize this party video game, which falls a bit short compared to the previous one. If I could talk about goodness, it would be to comment that the mini games with Joy-Con are fun, but it is such a poor selection in terms of numbers, that after a short time the guests will get bored. Of course, I highlight that the title has dubbing into Spanish, implying that the region is taken more into consideration.
A meeting that may go unnoticed
In conclusion, Everybody 1-2-Switch! It’s a game that can be entertaining but not for long, and that’s precisely due to the small number of mini-games that it brings with it, being easily surpassed by the previous installment. In fact, the possibilities for something ambitious were right there, but they weren’t properly harnessed.
The addition of using cell phones I feel that you will not like it at all, since there may be participants who do not have them, such as children who want to play but all the Joy-Con are already occupied. And the absence of an online mode is somewhat incomprehensible, since Nintendo seeks to get as many users as possible to join.
In the end, it is a fleeting title that will not be remembered by many, and now it is understood why it was announced out of nowhere and launched on the market after a few weeks. Of course, it is quite cheap, so collector users from the world of Nintendo can take it to their shelves, and spending many hours in front of the game is something totally different (spoiler alert! The fun ends in two hours or less).
Remember that Everybody 1-2-Switch! It is now available.
