The main version of the reasons for the hard landing, which was made on July 16 by a passenger An-28 in the taiga in the Tomsk region, has been revealed: according to the priority version, after takeoff from the Kedrovy landing site, icing occurred. About it informs Kommersant citing a source close to the investigation.
An-28 engines stopped about ten minutes after takeoff, at an altitude of 2800 meters.
The experts came to the conclusion that after takeoff and climb, the plane got into a zone of high humidity and freezing temperatures. This led to icing of the air intakes of both engines and to their stop. If this version is confirmed, the pilots will have to explain why the anti-icing system did not cope with the ice crust, and why the flight took place at all.
A source close to the investigation noted that on July 16, an An-28 of the airline LLC “SiLA” made a night flight from Tomsk to the site “Kedrovy”, located about 350 kilometers from the regional center. In the morning of the same day, the plane was supposed to return, but the flight had to be postponed to almost six o’clock in the evening, as the company feared it was icing. According to the first deputy director of “SiLA” Alexander Genievsky, the delay occurred due to weather conditions, but he named the exact reason.
According to meteorological data, on July 16, dense cumulonimbus clouds hung over the Bachkar district of the Tomsk region, and within the cloudiness there was a zone of transition of air temperature from positive to negative values. The An-28 was supposed to fly at an altitude of about three kilometers and was guaranteed to get into the zone of severe icing even during takeoff.
Earlier, the passengers of the An-28 aircraft disclosed the details of the incident. So, athlete Roman Makeev noted that the pilot tried to revive the stalled engines for about five minutes, then he found a suitable swamp for landing. When the plane fell, it touched branches, then caught its nose and turned over. Passenger Olga Kozlova, in turn, noted that people hoped to the last that the pilot would start the engines. When the plane crashed, people began to quickly get out, helping each other, as they were afraid that the plane would explode. Passengers stressed that no one had any serious injuries. In the swamp, they pulled the seats out of the plane and waited for help.
Also Dmitry Goldinov, coach of passenger Roman Makeev, said that Makeev sent his girlfriend a farewell message during the descent of the aircraft. According to him, Makeev’s beloved had a terrible hysteria.
When the aircraft disappeared from the radar, bad thoughts immediately came into my head, said Makeeva’s coach. He began to call hospitals and tried to find out at least some information about Roman. Later, the young man himself told him that the passengers flying on the An-28 began to say goodbye to life when they learned about the emergency descent. They were ready for the most terrible outcome, Makeev said.
On July 16, an An-28 passenger plane disappeared from radars in the Bakcharsky district of the Tomsk region, performing the Kedrovo – Tomsk flight. The reason for his emergency landing was engine failure. The plane managed to land in an open area. Onboard there were 18 people, including the crew. All survived. It was reported that the flight was delayed by ten hours due to poor weather conditions. The first deputy director of the Sila airline, Alexander Genievsky, said that the aircraft was in good order.
