Juarez City.– More than 50 people were evicted from the Health and Recreation Center for the Elderly, a space dedicated to retired teachers from Section 8 of the National Union of Education Workers (SNTE) in Ciudad Juárez.
Cecilia Gándara, one of the affected teachers, reported that the eviction, which occurred on September 25, was unexpected and she considered that it was arbitrary, almost like a “robbery,” which also caused great consternation among those present.
“Then these people come so unexpectedly, without warning. They told us that the private supposed owner of the property was notified, but it was evident that they knew we were there, since the cars were visible and there was activity,” he stated.
Those affected were forced to abandon the property, leaving their furniture and belongings on borrowed land while the legal process is resolved.
The operation was led by Mr. Gerardo González Rentería, who presented a court order issued by state judge Hilda Margarita Campos Alcántar of the Fourth Civil Court.
This order is based on the fact that the property was used as collateral by María Teresa Prida Osorio to settle a debt of 21 million pesos with Lionisio González García, an employee of a real estate company who won the legal case related to the property.
The retired teachers’ furniture, which includes therapeutic beds, armchairs and tables, was placed on the street, where it is currently guarded by the retirees themselves.
They take turns watching them while they try to find a safe space for storage.
El Diario requested information about the property from the Public Property Registry, to which the owner of the agency confirmed that the property is registered in the name of an individual and that the seizure is registered in the agency’s records.
This newspaper also sought the version of the Superior Court of Justice (TSJ) of the State of Chihuahua, which through the department of social communication reported that because it was information reserved for the parties, it could not give much detailed information about the case. He only stated that at the time of carrying out the procedure (the eviction) the teachers showed a simple copy of a bailment contract for the property that served as a school.
For his part, Javier Castro, one of those in charge of the center, explained that the land had originally belonged to the Emiliano Zapata federal rural school and that in 2013 it was given on loan to retired teachers so that they could carry out cultural and recreational activities.
Pedro Hidalgo Martínez, general coordinator of Section VIII of the SNTE, indicated that an injunction is being sought to clarify the reasons behind the eviction.
The union pointed out that the possibility of looking for a temporary space where retirees can continue with their activities while the legal situation of the property is resolved would be counterproductive, because due to the strike in the federal courts it is difficult at this time to promote the amparo trial. , to seek the provisional suspension of the embargo.
