Restoration of a monument of Moscow classicism, the Yushkov House, has begun in the capital, Deputy Moscow Mayor Natalya Sergunina said. The building is located in the center of Moscow, on Myasnitskaya Street, and has the status of an object of cultural heritage of federal significance. Now the Russian Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture of Ilya Glazunov is located there.
“The Yushkov House is one of the architectural landmarks of Myasnitskaya Street, popular with citizens and tourists. The building was built at the end of the 18th century. The last restoration was carried out 30 years ago. Now the specialists have to do a lot of work. To restore the decorative elements, they studied archival documents and photographs,” said Natalia Sergunina.
The building on Myasnitskaya Street was designed by architect Vasily Bazhenov for Lieutenant General Ivan Yushkov. The main manor house consists of two four-story buildings. In 1838, one of the halls was rented by the Moscow Art Society, until October 1917 it housed drawing classes, and since 1918, the State Free Art Workshops, which were then transformed into the Higher Art and Technical Workshops (VKHUTEMAS). In Yushkov’s house, you can see the stairs of the end of the 18th century, a marble fireplace of the 19th century, fragments of ceiling painting, columns, and stucco decoration dating back to the 18th-19th centuries.
During the restoration work, the craftsmen will fix the balustrade, doors and windows, the roof, the drainage system, the brickwork and renew the wall covering. Specialists will clear all white-stone surfaces – columns, paving of a semi-rotunda loggia, plinth, window sills, crowning cornice. Work will be completed in 2024.
The events of various Moscow projects related to education, leisure, sports, healthcare, and landscaping are united by the Moscow program “My District”. Its goal is the systematic and harmonious development of all districts of the city, regardless of their distance from the center.
