Restless Gasly: "Nightmares when I think about lost points"

In the week that introduces the Formula to the appointment with the British Grand Prix, Pierre Gasly approaches the Silverstone weekend with the full awareness of staying in AlphaTauri also for the coming season. A signature on the contract which therefore provides guarantees on the future of the Frenchman, but which does not erase the disappointments for the lost opportunities in this first part of the world championship; due to technical failures, mixed with personal or team errors, the transalpine is momentarily at the11th place in the general classification after the first nine races of the season, of which six are closed out of the points or for retirements.

Statistics that generate discontent in number 10, even more so when you think about the missed opportunities from Bahrain to Canada, with rare exceptions: “I have nightmares when I see how many points we have lost since the beginning of the year due to several accidents and mistakes we made – admitted Gasly – I just want to come back on Sunday evening after every single race satisfied with the work and performance we have shown, and this is the most important thing. If we can aim for 5th place, then we must be fifth, if there are conditions for ninth place, then we must be ninth. Sometimes we may not have rhythm and we have to settle for the P12, but at least we feel we have made the most of the package we have, and this is where the satisfaction comes. Obviously I would like to fight for the victories, but the moment is not the right one to do it and we must have the right goal ”.

The low point of the season is perhaps due to the elimination in Q1 in the Monaco GP, where the AlphaTauri could actually have the credentials to be able to express the full potential of the AT03. A Saturday afternoon that generated a deep anger in the 26-year-old, then converted into a meeting with the team which proved essential for a 5th place in the following race a Bakuin what represents his best seasonal result: “Obviously the frustration increases a bit in these cases – he added – but for me it was important to show them that I am there to push them. I put myself in the same boat as everyone, but also to make them progress as a team. For this I had a good chat with everyone and I think it was well appreciated. And it was nice to confirm it with the best weekend of the season. We hope this can be a good turning point for our year ”.
