With 42 offices in Brazil, EducationUSA, the State Department’s official network for information on studies in the US, guides Brazilians who want to study at one of its 4,000 universities. Anelise Hofmann, coordinator of the entity, spoke to the column about programs for low-income students.
Viability
“Studying in the United States is feasible even for students who are financially vulnerable. The entire process of guiding the student who wants to study is free, regardless of income. At this stage, we present the possibilities of study, scholarships and put the candidate in contact with the institutions. We help to assemble the resume and train for the interview”.
full help
“For candidates who really don’t have the financial means to pay for tests, applications or even their initial stay in the United States, we have the Academic Opportunities program. Calls take place every year for undergraduate and graduate courses — masters, doctorates, post-docs”.
partnerships
“Fulbright Commission and Lemann Foundation are some entities that come to us in search of educational exchange programs. Last year, for example, we prioritized Afro-Brazilians and indigenous people at the request of our partners. From a class of 20, we had 12 blacks and one indigenous from the state of Acre. We were very happy with the result. The plan to study in the United States is possible and our mission is to make it possible”.
