On October 1, Iran fired about 200 missiles at Israel, in its second direct attack on the Hebrew state in less than six months.
The Israeli army announced that air defense systems intercepted most of the missiles, while some of them hit military bases without causing major damage or casualties.
Iran said that its attack was in response to the assassination of the head of the Hamas political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, and the Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah.
The expected Israeli response to Iran
The Israel Broadcasting Authority reported that Kurella met with Israeli Chief of Staff Herzi Halevy and senior members of the General Staff, and is expected to meet with Defense Minister Yoav Galant at a later date. Observers believe that the talks will focus on the expected Israeli response to Iran.
An Israeli military official said that the army is “preparing a response” to the Iranian missile attack.
“The Israeli army is preparing a response to the illegal and unprecedented Iranian attack against Israeli civilians and Israel,” the official told AFP, requesting anonymity.
The official did not provide details about the nature or timing of the response, while the Israeli newspaper Haaretz quoted the army as saying that the response would be “significant.”
It reported that “the Israeli army is preparing for a major strike in Iran after the missile attack that Tehran carried out this week,” adding that “the army does not rule out the possibility that Iran will again launch missiles at Israel.”
Israeli media said that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in turn, will hold additional security consultations on Saturday evening regarding the response to Iran.
Israeli Channel 12 quoted an Israeli official as saying, “Iran made a big mistake and will pay the price for it.”
