Residents of Cyprus took to the action in support of Russia and condemned Zelensky’s calls for sanctions
Residents of Cyprus staged a protest rally in front of the Russian embassy in Nicosia because of the sanctions imposed against Moscow, writes TASS.
About 100 local residents and Russian-speaking residents of the island took to the streets and gathered on Sunday, April 17, along the fence of the diplomatic mission. They were holding Russian tricolors and banners calling for lifting anti-Russian sanctions. The activists called on the authorities to strengthen relations between Russia and Cyprus.
The organizer of the action, Angelos Konstantinides, specified that the inhabitants of Cyprus do not agree with the policy of Nicosia, which has joined the sanctions pressure on Russia. “The Cypriot people absolutely do not agree with any of the sanctions that have been imposed today against Russia. On this issue, we completely disagree with our authorities,” he stressed.

He condemned the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, who recommended the governments of Greece and Cyprus to condemn what is happening in Ukraine. The head of Ukraine called for tough measures against the Russians in order to prevent them from living freely in these countries.
This is the fourth action in support of Russia organized in Cyprus after the start of the special operation in Ukraine on February 24th.
Earlier it became known that a Russian citizen was arrested in Cyprus on suspicion of inciting racial hatred.
