Russia condemns attempts by Western countries to settle scores with Belarus, accusing the republic of fomenting the migration crisis. This was stated by the Russian representative in the third committee of the UN General Assembly Stepan Kuzmenkov.
“We condemn the offensive and inadmissible statements of the representatives of the USA, Canada, the EU, which do not correspond to the practice of mutually respectful dialogue in the field of human rights,” Kuzmenkova quotes “RIA News“November 12th.
According to him, such statements testify to the desire of the European Union “to settle political scores with the author of the resolution, groundlessly accusing him of fomenting the migration crisis.”
Moscow considers it unacceptable to shift the blame for the migration crisis in Europe to Minsk, the Russian representative to the UN emphasized at a committee meeting.
At the same time, as the director of the Department for Humanitarian Cooperation and Human Rights of the Russian Foreign Ministry Grigory Lukyantsev emphasized, Western countries are trying to shift the blame for the crisis with migrants on the border of Belarus and Poland to Minsk, but they themselves have questions about the reasons for the deployment of troops in the area of events and refusal from consultations with Minsk to resolve the situation.
“Despite the importance of the topic under consideration (on the fight against human trafficking – Ed.), Some Western states decided to use its discussion for their own opportunistic purposes,” reports TASS his words at a speech at the meeting of the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly.
The representative of the Russian Federation stressed that the exodus of refugees from the Middle East was caused by the actions of Western countries there. At the same time, some EU member states refuse to offer Minsk to hold appropriate consultations to resolve the migration problem, he summed up.
On the same day, November 12, the heads of the foreign policy and defense departments of France Jean-Yves Le Drian and Florence Parly called on Russia to influence Belarus to resolve the migration crisis on the Belarusian-Polish border.
Also on Friday, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that he plans to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and discuss, in particular, the situation in Belarus.
In recent days, the situation on the border between Poland and Belarus has seriously deteriorated. The European countries blame the Belarusian side for the migration crisis, which denies any involvement in the increase in the flow of refugees. The EU is discussing the expansion of sanctions against Belarus. At the border, refugees have set up camp. On November 12, an Izvestia correspondent reported that the Belarusian security forces brought food to the base, and children and women lined up for them. The number of migrants at the border is increasing every day.
The situation with illegal migrants on the border between Poland and Belarus escalated on November 8, when a large group of refugees in Belarus approached the border with Poland in a forest belt. Migrants cut barbed wire at the border of the two countries and asked to be allowed into the territory of the European Union.
