In May, a gunman opened fire at a state school and killed 19 children and 2 adults.
The report prepared by the Texas House Committee on the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, a US city in the State of Texas, said there was “Systemic failures and wrong decision making” from the police in the episode that left 21 people dead.
According to the authorities, not only the local police could have acted with more agility and precision, but the state and federal police also failed to respond to the crime. O document was released this Sunday (17.Jul.2022).
In the lawsuit, the report found that the majority of professionals were state and federal: of the 376 officers, 149 were U.S. Border Patrol officers and 91 were state police officers — whose responsibilities included responding to “mass attacks in public places”.
“These local authorities were not the only ones who were supposed to provide the necessary leadership during this tragedy.,” the report said. “Hundreds of first responders from various law enforcement agencies – many of whom were better trained and better equipped than the school district police – quickly arrived on the scene.”.
The police officers who entered the scene after the shooting lacked coordination and “clear leadership” to perform the operation, the text said.
Officers told investigators that Uvalde School District Police Chief Pete Arredondo was in charge, but Arredondo said he did not believe in himself to fill the position.
About the shooter, the text states that Salvador Ramos had never fired a weapon before the crime.
