The name can sometimes make a difference. This Renault He understood this very well when he decided to bring the R5 back to the road first and then the R4, with the two series models revisited as electric cars that will again be part of the Losanga offer in the coming years. A process that will also be carried out with Scenic, another historical name of the recent past of the French brand which in recent years has experienced an inexorable decline due to the rise of SUVs. This car, albeit a noble one, has failed to resist in a segment increasingly dominated by high-wheeled vehicles and for this reason the transalpine brand has decided to transform it into an electric SUV just when it seemed one step away from finally disappearing.
The preview of the Scenic Vision Concept has in fact fueled the hopes of reviewing this model on the road, albeit in other guises, with Renault itself confirming that the prototype actually anticipated a car that would arrive in 2024, what should be called Renault Scenic E-Tech. Compared to the show car presented a few months ago, there will be very few features that do not arrive at the production stage, including the pixel graphics of the full LED headlamps. For the rest, it was the same head of the design of the Losanga Gilles Vidal who stated that the style of the Vision Scenic Concept will evolve, but 90% will arrive intact in production. The 21-inch wheels with their futuristic design could also arrive on the standard version. Inside the cockpit the new digital dashboard layout will almost certainly be borrowed with the OpenR display that debuted on Megane E-Tech and then on Austral, with the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12-inch oriented touchscreen. vertically for the infotainment based on Android Automotive. What is certain is that there will not be a 7-seater version but the electric nature will still allow ample space for larger families.
The Vision Scenic Concept introduced the H2-Tech engine which combines a front-mounted electric motor capable of delivering 218 hp, combined with a hydrogen fuel cell with range extender that generates 22 hp and a 40 kWh battery with the possibility of having a range of up to 800 km. This unconventional hybrid configuration is not ready for production and therefore a full electric powertrain will be used. Renault Scenic E-Tech will be based on the CMF-EV platform, the same as Megane E-Tech and Nissan Ariya and will be available in both FWD and all-wheel drive configurations, with single or double engine.
