The third generation of Renault Kangoo enriches its range with a fully electric version: on November 16, the new Kangoo Van E-Tech Electric, the battery-powered variant of the French best seller among light commercial vehicles, will make its debut. The official unveil is expected at the Solutrans show in Lyon. It will be produced at the Maubeuge plant in France, with the first deliveries which will start in Europe in the spring of 2022.
Thanks to the new lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 44 kWh 100% usable, New Kangoo Van E-Tech Electric boasts an autonomy of up to 300 km in WLTP cycle. A distance that allows van users to make most of their daily professional journeys with confidence, at the best cost of ownership and use. The battery, located under the vehicle floor, does not affect the usable volume of the loading area. New Kangoo Van E-Tech Electric is equipped with an efficient 90 kW engine and 245 Nm torque available immediately, for a smooth and serene ride in all circumstances. Eco Mode, which limits the power and maximum speed of the vehicle, optimizes the range and is preferably used with the vehicle lightly loaded.
The driver can also choose between three modes of regenerative braking: Sailing (warning light B1), limited regenerative mode, suitable for driving on motorways and fast roads; Drive (B2), regenerative mode by default, for versatile use, with pedal feel similar to that of thermal engine vehicles and finally Brake (B3), maximum regenerative mode, to be used in traffic and in the mountains. On the New Kangoo Van E-Tech, classic hydraulic braking is complemented by an ARBS system (Adaptative Regenerative Brake System), which maximizes the energy recovered regardless of the braking mode chosen. Information on the selected driving mode, electric power management and driver assistance devices is displayed on the dashboard with a fully customizable, 100% digital 10 ” color display, available as an option.
To recharge the battery, New Kangoo Kangoo Van E-Tech Electric offers the choice between 2 types of chargers. The standard equipment includes a 22 kW three-phase Caméléon battery charger for accelerated charging on public columns and a 75 kW direct current rapid charger, which allows you to recover 170 km of range (WLPT cycle) in 30 minutes. For the latter two models, the battery is water-cooled. The batteries of the New Kangoo Van E-Tech Electric are recharged from the initial 15% to 80% within 1.30 hours on the public columns and in less than 6 hours on the 7.4 kW Wallbox. To guarantee the best autonomy in any season, New Kangoo Van E-Tech Electric has air conditioning controlled by a heat pump. Combined with a 22 kW battery charger, this allows the heat of the external ambient air to be recovered to heat the passenger compartment, without resorting to an electrical resistance that consumes energy. The performance of the heat pump is optimal when the outside temperature ranges from -15 ° C to + 15 ° C, an interval that corresponds to that of the cold seasons in most European countries.
