Al Paris SalonRenault presents the Emblemeone concept cars with technologies aimed at minimizing the polluting emissions throughout the vehicle’s life cycle. The automaker says the Emblème reduces CO2 emissions by 90% compared to current cars and represents an important step towards the goal of zero emissions in Europe by 2040 and in the world by 2050.
Renault Emblème the car to reduce emissions
The Renault Emblème is one shooting brake 4.80 meters long, 1.52 meters high and with a wheelbase of 2.9 metres, designed to offer ample space for families, passengers and luggage.
The bodywork, in dichroic greenchanges shades depending on the viewing angle, while the overall weight of the car, including the batteries, has been reduced to 1,750 kg thanks to the use of innovative materials. The aerodynamics, inspired by Formula 1includes solutions such as cameras integrated into the wheel arches instead of mirrors and front air vents.
The Cx of 0.25 was achieved thanks to advanced technologies and collaboration with the Alpine F1 team. The streamlined design also includes a flat bottom and a active speaker to minimize turbulence.
Renault Emblème electric engine + hydrogen
The Renault Emblème is an electric car equipped with a 160 kW (218 hp) on the front axle, product without the use of rare earths.
It is powered by two energy sources: one 40 kWh battery which guarantees sufficient autonomy for daily journeys, and a 30 kW hydrogen fuel cellwith a tank of 2.8kgcapable of offering up to 350 km of additional mileage.
The architecture of the Emblème is based on the platform AmpR Mediumwhich integrates all the main components of the powertrain (engine, battery, fuel cell and hydrogen tank) to maintain a low center of gravity and optimal weight distribution, with the dual objective of ensuring efficiency and high performance.
Thanks to this configuration, Renault claims that the Emblème can cover up to 1,000 kmwith refueling times similar to those of a traditional combustion engine car: a full tank of hydrogen only requires five minuteswith the only emission of water vapor from the exhaust.
Method to reduce emissions
For the Renault Emblème, technicians and designers have adopted concrete and achievable solutions, using recycled materials of natural origin or with a low carbon footprint, producing with renewable energy and applying principles of circular economy.
Renault has collaborated with over twenty specialized companies, following one approach “horizontal and collective” which promotes barrier-free innovation between the Group, its brands, partners and suppliers, to achieve ambitious goals decarbonisation.
