Continue in the house Renault the discussion on the opportunity to create a division dedicated to electric cars. Losanga CEO Luca de Meo once again underlined the potential that would derive from an operation of this type, with the separation of the EV business from that of internal combustion engines. In these hours, several rumors have made their way that they would like several partners ready to support Renault in regards to diesel and petrol enginesthus allowing the necessary finances to flow into the coffers of the French group to kick off the spin-off operation of the electric car division.
“All the research and studies we have done have already confirmed the very strong potential of this operation”, explained de Meo to shareholders – At the moment no decision has been made and all options are still on the table. If we proceeded in this sense, however, we would also be able to correct the group evaluation. “ In the event of a demerger of the EV division, operations relating to electricity would be concentrated in France with the expectation of building additional dedicated factories while the production sites for internal combustion engines would be those already existing in Spain, Portugal, Turkey, Romania and throughout Latin America. The two separate entities would have approximately 10,000 employees each.
In the event that Renault finds some type of partner, Losanga would intend to maintain a 40% stake, focusing instead on the majority of the EV division for which it would intend to proceed with a listing on the stock exchange starting in mid-2023. The news of the possible spin-off of the electric of the French brand comes a few weeks after the decision taken by Ford which is preparing to separate the business of cars on tap, controlled by the Model division, from those of Ford Blue which will take control of the development of endothermic models and the Mustang brand.
