Renault Austral has taken up the spiritual legacy of Kadjar, entering the C segment of SUVs with a technological and electrified proposal which in fact represents the second product step of the Renaulution wanted by the CEO of the French group Luca de Meo. The high-wheeled model of the Losanga makes the most of cutting-edge architecture, offering comfort and roominess at the same time, without disdaining engaging driving dynamics even though it is a car that measures 4.51 meters and has a wheelbase of 2 .67 meters. So what are they? the strong points of Renault Austral? We tell you about them in summary, with 5 things to know about the new SUV of the transalpine brand.
1. New platform, all-new SUV: Austral was born on the Alliance’s CMF-CD platform, a modular architecture that made it possible to integrate various systems that improve driving dynamics and manoeuvrability. Alongside the technical innovations, however, there is also a modern, muscular and sporty design that follows the most modern stylistic features of the Diamond, adopted on all the latest models in the range.
2. Only electrified motors: the multi-energy platform was created to accommodate electrified propulsion only, with the range of Austral engines including the mild-hybrid available with a 12 or 48 Volt system and powers of 160 HP respectively, in combination with the 1.4 petrol and 130 HP with the 1.2 petrol. Finally, there is the 400 V Full Hybrid which, on the other hand, can offer 200 HP of maximum power combined with a 1.2 petrol engine with a 50 kW electric motor and a 1.7 kWh battery.
3. Three layouts and the Alpine ‘spirit’: the range of the new Renault SUV is divided into the Equilibre, Techno and Iconic versions, with the latter also available in the sportier Espirite Alpine variant. The latter is easily recognizable for some distinctive elements, such as the F1 blade on the front, the 20” Daytona wheels and the Alcantara upholstery with blue stitching and specific logo on the headrest, with the Alpine lettering also present on the sill.
4. Native Digital Dashboard and Google: Inside the passenger compartment, the Open R Link stands out, the seamless display that integrates the digital dashboard and multimedia system in a single inverted L-shaped screen that extends in front of the driver to the center of the dashboard. The cluster measures 12.3” while the multimedia system screen, in vertical orientation, can measure up to 12”. Based on Android Automotive, it already integrates some Google apps and guarantees wireless connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
5. Third Generation Rear Wheel Steering: Renault Austral is equipped. with the third generation 4Control Advanced system. In particular, this technology allows the rear wheels to steer in the same direction as the front wheels up to 1° or to do it in the opposite direction up to 5°, thus maximizing stability even at higher speeds, especially when cornering. The turning radius is also excellent, reaching 10.10 metres.
