The Group Renault will market a compact car under the Alpine brand in the course of 2024. This is a hypervitaminized electric Renault 5complete with a rear wing, which could also have sporting connotations as the Alpine brand is in the midst of its revival.
Renault will launch several battery-powered models in 2024, including Model 5, as well as Renault 4, another sedan and a van. But with the R5 you can really make the most of Alpine’s potential too, in fact, also transferring the skills acquired over the years by Renault Sport to the road. In this sense the Alpine R5 will be heir to the tradition of the nineties, in particular with the Clio model.
Gilles le Borgne, Renault Group Executive Vice President of Engineering, told Auto Express in 2021: “One of the new Alpine models will be derived from the R5 and will use the electric transmission of the upcoming Megane E-Tech Electric crossover“. The confirmed Alpine version will go against the industry trend of placing electric motors in the rear and instead opt for the French tradition of front-wheel drive. His initial prediction is that the car will hit 100 km / h in about six seconds.
The hothatch of the brand founded by Jean Rédélé will have wider trackways to improve handling and emphasize the sportier look. The use of the CMF-EV platform which shares several characteristics with the CMF-B (base of the current generation of Clio), could give the Alpine model even more sporting qualities. Obviously there are no details yet on any upgrades in terms of batteries, but we can certainly expect truly “battle” aerodynamics., with many fins and details capable of transforming a quiet R5 into a serious candidate for rallying perspectives. At that point, the circle could really close, with Alpine ready to participate in all the most important categories of motorsport, following the main road traced by Abarth alongside the Fiat brand.
