All employees of the municipality can receive a meeting fee of more than one hundred euros.
Janakkalan the municipality plans to hold possibly the largest municipal board meeting in the world and will invite all its staff as experts to a remote board meeting in January. The municipality employs about a thousand people, and they have all been invited.
At the same time, it is a matter of rewarding staff for stretching the heavy and exceptional Corona period. A meeting fee of EUR 112.50 will be paid for each participant.
“It was a wild idea that then turned into that. The best experts are our entire staff, ”says the mayor Reijo Siltala.
“We thought it was fair to get together in a community. So it’s not just offering cold money and a warm hand, it’s both. ”
The meeting will thus cost the municipality about 112,000 euros.
There is no exact information on whether the meeting can really be the largest municipal government meeting in the world, but at least for the time being, Janakkala is experiencing it. According to the municipality, the idea is that it has worked so far and will continue to be worked out.
At the meeting the speeches of the chairmen of the municipal council and the municipal government, the mayor and the staff representative will be heard.
Chairman of the municipal board Pirjo Alijärvi he also sees the remote meeting and meeting fee as a unique way to thank for the work of the pandemic. He thinks not everyone will be able to participate.
“We’re working to ensure that all staff have the opportunity to participate, but not everyone can get in. The meeting can therefore be listened to afterwards from the recording, ”says Alijärvi.
To receive the bonus, you must have at least three months of uninterrupted employment and attend a meeting. If this is not possible, the employee can offset the bonus by viewing the recording during January.
