Banished from Olympic Village: Luana Alonso Breaks Silence
Removed from the Olympic Village for creating an “inappropriate environment within Team Paraguay,” swimmer Luana Alonso breaks her silence and denies what happened.
In a story published on his profile Instagram, in fact, the athlete denied what emerged in recent days: “Stop spreading false news, no one has removed me or expelled me. I will not make statements, but I do not want untrue things to be written”.
The athlete, who was eliminated in the 100m butterfly heat on July 27, had announced her retirement from competition to “go and study in the United States and continue her scientific career”.
A decision that had also surprised the South American federation which had commented as follows: “In her statements she said she would retire. We didn’t know, no one in the team knew, not even the coach. It’s her decision and we respect it”.
Subsequently, news emerged that the athlete, despite having decided to retire, continued to frequent the Olympic Village and had been removed from her federation for having created an “inappropriate environment”.
Despite the swimmer’s denial, however, the federation confirmed what happened through the words of Camilo Pérez, president of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee, who in an interview with ABC He said: “We ask the head of mission, Larissa, to try to talk to her and ask you to please leave because you are no longer part of the delegation and that is a place where you cannot be when you are not part of a delegation.”
