Two suitcases allegedly bought by a family from the New Zealand city of Auckland last week at an auction contained the remains of two children between the ages of five and ten.as reported this Thursday by the Police of the oceanic country.
New Zealand Police Inspector Tofilau Faamanuia Vaaelua said the human remains of the children, whose identities are unknown, were likely have been in storage for about three or four years.
“The bodies were hidden in two suitcases of a similar size… I think the suitcases have been stored for several years,” Vaaelua told a news conference broadcast by Radio New Zealand.
The police chief specified that the investigation into the death of the minors, whose identities are being determined through forensic DNA analysisfocuses on the details around how and why they died.
The police investigation team “is also working very hard to hold accountable the person or persons responsible for the deaths of these children,” he added.

“The nature of this finding poses some complexities to the investigation, especially given the time elapsed between the time of death and the time of discovery,” the detective said, adding that the relatives of the victims would be in New Zealand.
The New Zealand Police began investigating on August 11 the discovery of human remains in those suitcases.after an Auckland family allegedly towed home items they had won at an abandoned property auction in a trailer.

Vaaelua noted that the family who found the remains is not related to the deaths of the children and asked the press and the public to respect their privacy.
