We are now in
August, it is midsummer and many of you are enjoying a well deserved vacation. We assume that you are crushing all that list of games that accumulates throughout the year, but we know that there is always a moment to let go of the controller and turn on our favorite content platforms to see a movie or that new series that we were waiting for.
So that you know where you have to point with your remote control and you can mark dates on the calendar, this is our selection of
recommendations for all video game fans who also have a passion for the big screen. This month is loaded with both video game adaptations and franchises that video games have drunk from, you can’t miss them.
Marvel Studios Legends: New Episodes – August 4 (Disney +) Marvel is coming strong this month. The Marvel Studios documentary series is dedicated to making a review of all those iconic moments that we have lived in the last decade in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we have had episodes about Wanda, about Vision, Falcon, Winter Soldier or Loki and this month they premiere new chapters with more curiosities.
Edens Zero – August 4 (Netflix) The new animated series by Hiro Mashima, creator of Fairy Tail, has everything we like in JRPGs: charismatic characters, a fantastic and futuristic setting, and it also has highlights. Konami is already working on two games for console and mobile. The protagonist, Shiki Granbell, is an orphan raised by robots who will face all kinds of dangers.
What If…? – August 11 (Disney +) The Marvel universe is increasingly present in video games but the reality is that we have been watching our favorite superheroes from the arcade rooms, not to mention cinema or animation. This video is about the latter: What If …? reviews the first moments of the films that started the UCM by posing an alternative version of what happened.
Monster Hunter Legends of the Guild – August 12 (Netflix) This month things are about big franchises, because we are also going to have a film from one of the most important and successful in Japan, and now also from around the world. Capcom’s famous hunter saga premieres with Netflix in an animated film in which we will live the story of a hunter named Aiden who must protect his people from an Elder Dragon.
The Complete Evangelion Movie Saga – August 13 (Amazon Prime) Although there have been no new Neon Genesis Evangelion video games for a long time and most of the important ones stayed in Japan, it is undeniable the influence that this anime has had on practically the entire Japanese culture of the last two decades. What for many is the best anime series of all time premieres the reconstruction of its original work through its four films, including the last of the saga that had not yet reached our country.
The Witcher: The Wolf’s Nightmare – August 23 (Netflix) The Witcher 3 has been an example of how to do things right, it has enjoyed rarely seen success and has helped Andrzej Sapkowski’s universe expand to more audiovisual media. As everything in this saga interests us, The Nightmare of the Wolf is one of the essentials of the month. The 2D animated film tells us about the origin of Vesemir, Geralt’s mentor.
Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian – August 25 (Disney Plus) All the How It Was Made … specials dedicated to The Mandalorian are a treasure for any Star Wars fan for the amount of details, secrets and curiosities that allow us to discover about one of the most successful series of the moment, so this new episode, focusing on one of the key moments of the second season, is very promising.
Geek Tip: Stargirl – Aug 11 (HBO) For fans of the DC universe this month we have the second season of Stargirl, with a new threat to the protagonist of this superhero series: the Cadmus organization, led by Lillian Luthor, must be defeated. The first season felt fresh and exciting, with a good cast and some very careful special effects.
