Evidence that frequent heading is harmful to the brain has been around for years. However, a connection had never been made in our country. Until now. The ex-professional football player Wout Holverda, who died in early December, has the bitter scoop. In the early eighties, the Leiden striker was a real plague on behalf of Sparta for defenders in the Eredivisie. In 136 games, Holverda scored 56 goals, many of them with the head despite his 1.78 meters.
