The race director, as he explains AS, suffered a heart attack and was transported to hospital in Timisoara, where he was immediately operated on. The referee experienced severe chest pain shortly after finishing his daily physical activity. But, considering that when he is not wearing the whistle he is a doctor, he immediately understood what was happening to him and went to the hospital, only to be confirmed by his colleagues that he had a heart attack in progress and that he needed an operation. . All this a few days after having carried out his duties as fourth official in the match of the world playoffs between Austria and Wales.
AND NOW? – So much fear, but luckily Hategan’s conditions, as explained by a press release from the Romanian federation, are good. What the press release does not explain, however, is whether this heart attack will have repercussions on the whistle’s career. Hategan, who also recently directed one of two matches between Atletico Madrid and Manchester United in the Champions League, is one of the names UEFA has pre-alerted for the World Cup finals in November. The federation did not want to give indications on the possibility that the referee will return to direct, nor on the timing of a possible return to the field.
