Yesterday it was not very exciting during qualifying, because Hamilton was the fastest by a large lead. After qualifying, it became exciting in Brazil. When inspecting the cars, the FIA found that Hamilton’s DRS was not legal because it opened too wide. A lengthy investigation followed, the results of which are not yet known. It could well be that Hamilton is excluded from qualifying due to the illegal DRS and therefore has to start the sprint race from the back of the field.
Max Verstappen also had to report to the FIA. After qualifying, he took a look at Hamilton’s Mercedes. In doing so, he touched the rear wing of his own car and Lewis’s. According to the parc fermé rules, drivers and teams are not allowed to touch the cars after a session, until they have been inspected. The FIA has not yet made a decision on that either.
In this 2nd free practice in Brazil everyone is anxiously waiting for the decision. The drivers meanwhile take to the track and mainly focus on the racing simulations. The average times are more important than the fastest times over one lap. In addition, the Red Bulls look stronger than the Mercedes of Hamilton and Bottas. Tonight we can see whether Red Bull continues this strong form in the sprint race. But first, we’ll hear more from the race management.
