The controversy
On the eve of the Montreal weekend, the words of the Mercedes technical director had not gone unnoticed, James Allison who commented: “It really seems like their update was a downgrade (step back, ed.)”.
The British designer then explained that he expected the Red Bulls in front on tracks characterized by fast corners, but his words aroused some discontent in the world champion team.
Horner teases
And Max Verstappen’s great success in Montreal was the opportunity for the team principal Christian Horner to take revenge on Allison in the media: “Well, even with our downgrade, we managed to beat their developments. And so it was a rewarding race to win.”
Horner then narrowed the focus on the performance of Mercedes, which seemed to be back in contention for victory in Canada: “I think their car has always performed well on ‘green’ circuits and here there were no fast corners and, also considering the resurfacing, perhaps all this has enhanced their strengths. We’ll see in the next two or three GPs if they have recovered or was it just a peak.”
