The drivers of the future Red Bull
Lawson and Tsunoda, but also Franco Colapinto and the young people of the Junior Team, Hadjar and Lindblad. These are the names on Helmut Marko’s desk and that Red Bull is evaluating a possible replacement for the disappointing Sergio Perez. What is not among the possible candidates for the role of vice-Verstappen or in any case for a seat in Formula 1 for the 2025 season is instead the profile of Sebastian Vettel: for a few weeks given very close to a return to racing with Porsche in the WEC, and then in any case taken into consideration by Audi-Sauber, the four-time world champion seems to have definitively lost any chance of returning to the paddock.
Vettel game over?
Word of Marko himself who, during a long interview granted to the German site Motorsport-Totaltold how his former protégé was not taken into consideration for the short-term future of the Red Bull drivers’ patrol: “Vettel has been out of the sport for too long and now there are many extremely fast youngsters. I actually haven’t had contact with Sebastian for a long time, I haven’t heard from him in the last three months. It is now located in an area somewhere in northern Europe, where cell phones do not reach and where planes do not travel”.
A definitive end to the 37-year-old’s idea of returning to F1, who after retiring from competition at the end of the 2022 world championship he was only seen again on a few rare occasions for commemorative events (such as the memory of Ayrton Senna in this year’s Imola GP) or initiatives related to environmental protection.
Marko praises Russell
Marko then also praised George Russell, finding at least one point of agreement with team principal Christian Horner, who after Singapore had expressed appreciation for the Englishman, angering his rival Toto Wolff: “George is as fast as Hamilton, if not faster than him, but he is now a Mercedes driver. So, I think for now we will focus on our young drivers to see what they can do. Look at Colapinto, who did an incredible job in F1 despite having little experience and without too much success in the minor categories. I must say though that he hadn’t raced with the best teams”.
