Upgrade or downgrade?
“Red Bull updates? A downgrade”. The technical director of Mercedes James Allison he provocatively underlined that the latest innovations brought to the track by the Milton Keynes team in Imola did not benefit the RB20s, on the contrary. Red Bull brought a package of updates to Japan at Suzuka which was positive judging by the performance in China, but what they brought to the track at Imola has yet to prove its worth or otherwise.
Helmut Marko he said he expected a lot from the Imola update and in view of Barcelona he uses more or less the same words he had already written on the eve of the Emilia Romagna GP. “The competition has caught up, no doubt, but we are not worried. There will be further improvements to the car and the data is promising“reads the last column signed by the Austrian manager on the site speedweek.com. The doubt is related to the data and numbers promised for now by the Red Bull simulator which have so far often been disregarded in 2024. Verstappen himself claims that for years the data in the simulation has not been so accurate.
What is certainly positive for Red Bull is the fact that the ‘simultaneous’ growth of rivals means that Ferrari, McLaren and Mercedes seem destined to steal points from each other, thus slowing down a possible chase especially towards Max Verstappen in the Drivers’ standings: “We don’t have just one opponent, but three who take points away from each other. I hope things stay that way.”added Marko.
