Sergio Perez he had started from the fourth square of the starting grid at the Hungarian Grand Prix, but his expectations for the race had to collide with the accident at the first corner caused by Valtteri Bottas, which quickly put him out of the game. The Red Bull race was thus wrecked after a few seconds, also considering the damage to Max Verstappen’s car, with the team leaders complaining about what happened, with particular reference to the extra expenses incurred by the team to repair the cars both Silverstone and in Budapest after episodes in which the innocence of their drivers was clear.
The losses, however, could not only be economic, but also sporting. Verstappen’s Great Britain power unit – initially assembled by the team – has in fact been removed from the car in preparation for the race, and in all likelihood it will be unlikely to be recovered for the rest of the season. And also for Sergio Perez’s Honda engine, the news is anything but positive: “The incident is a serious blow to the team and in all probability we also lost the engine“, Explained the Mexican after the race. The bad news was also confirmed by the team manager, Christian Horner: “The power unit immediately lost all water. More in-depth analysis will be needed, but an initial diagnosis suggests that it will no longer be usable. For Honda it is all very frustrating, because we are forced to make substitutions not deriving from reliability problems“.
As for Max Verstappen, in the event of a new Honda engine, Sergio Perez will also be forced to mount the third unit for the rest of the season. The use of a fourth power unit will lead to a penalty on the grid.
