Temperatures ten degrees above the average for the period. The Spaniards seek refreshment in swimming pools, museums and shopping centers
MADRID. Second day of record temperatures in Spain: the National Meteorological Agency has warned the population that even today the exceptional heat will hit a large part of the country, with temperatures 10 degrees above the average for the period. The Spanish Meteorological Agency does not technically speak of a “heat wave” because this assumes a longer duration than that currently foreseen, but estimates for today peaks on the thermometers between 41 and 44 degrees, but also up to 47 in the Guadalquivir valley and in the central areas of the country, with a heat that will not give respite even at night until Tuesday, when the heat wave will have moved to the east and then disperse in the Mediterranean. For the time being all of Spain only the regions of Galicia and the Basque coast of the Cantabrian Sea have been spared by the arrival of this mass of boiling air from Africa and started on Friday.
The weather alert concerns 13 communities, of which 6 (Andalusia, Aragòn, Castilla y Leòn, Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura and Madrid) marked with the orange alert for an important risk. In Andalusia, 44 degrees are expected in Cordoba, Granada, Jaèn and Seville: this is about ten degrees above the averages for the period. Record temperatures are also expected in Toledo and Madrid, where 41 degrees are expected in the central hours. Forecasts say that tomorrow will continue to be very hot in the south-eastern regions, with 44 degrees expected in the province of Almeria, and 42-44 in the coast of Valencia and Alicante. On Tuesday, temperatures should drop, especially on the Mediterranean coast and the Canaries. Everywhere in the country the swimming pools and places where you can find refreshment thanks to air conditioning, such as museums and shopping centers, are full, considering that there are still limitations and closed numbers for the sale of tickets.
