The speed of the Internet has always been a topic of conversation. While many people struggle day after day to get the desired results when uploading or downloading information, there are cases where this is not an issue. Thus, it has recently been revealed that A group of British scientists have set a new record for domestic broadband.
According to Tech Spot, Scientists at Aston University in the UK have achieved an internet speed of 402 Tbps per second through optical fibre. This allowed them to surpass the previous world record of 319 Tbps, which they also held. To make this a reality, the team set out to build the first optical transmission system with six wavelength bands, instead of the traditional four.
In total, the transmission speed is 1.6 million times faster than the average 25Mbps home broadband connection. With this speed you could download any game in a matter of seconds, no matter its size. While having a new world record is a good thing, this breakthrough could have a major impact on the way the internet works, potentially leading to faster data transfers, if providers allow for such a possibility.
We can only wait to see if the scientists’ work can be used in the daily lives of many, or will it remain only as a world recordOn related topics, Mexico is the second country in Latin America with the most expensive internet in the region.
