Real estate Helsinki’s sales intentions threaten to drive the music school away from its traditional premises in Munkkiniemi

Helsinki the city has planned to sell the Nuottapolku 11 property in Munkkiniemi. The Urban Environment Board discussed the sale at its meeting on Tuesday, but the matter was still left on the table.

The listed building is located in Munkkiniemi and was completed in 1933.

The intentions are part of the city’s decision to sell the properties.

The building houses the Western Helsinki Music College as a tenant. Information about the intentions to sell the property reached the college through the media four days before the board meeting.

Prior to Tuesday’s board meeting, vice-rector of the Western Helsinki Music College Forcing Fagerlund sent a statement to the board. It argued that the city was not selling the property.

The use of the facilities as a music school would be maintained as it is today. Among other things, the importance of the music school for the well-being of children and young people in the area has been suggested.

Fagerlund is confused about the city’s plans to sell the property. Of course, there have been discussions about property renovations.

“There has been a feeling that there has been a good dialogue.”

According to Fagerlund, the music college needs its own premises. The College of Music has activities from morning to night. Among other things, it is a center for music activities for children and young people in its area.

“There are no equally functional facilities.”

The Western Helsinki Music College has been operating on the premises since 1989. About 600 children study at the school.
