Not everyone is interested in participating in general meetings. However, how actively you are in contact with the board of your housing company can have a big impact on the value of the apartment.

Housing market The development now raises concerns about the value of the apartment in many ways, when interest rates are rising and the corona era has changed living habits.

Spring is the traditional time for general meetings of building societies. This spring, the general meetings have discussed energy consumption and energy prices, the rising cost of renovations, and the construction of charging stations for electric cars and bicycles.

The annual general meeting is one of the housing company’s most important events of the year, which should not be missed. At the meeting, the shareholder receives information about where the board and the property manager have succeeded, answers to questions about the housing association, and the opportunity to influence, for example, the housing association’s level of equipment and living comfort.

Interest participation in general meetings is, however, at a low level in Finland. This is a challenge for the home owner, because the preservation of the value of the apartment is not guaranteed solely by how well one has taken care of one’s own apartment or how well one has renovated it. The value of an individual apartment is influenced, for example, by the condition of the facade, stairwell, roof and courtyards, as well as energy-efficient heating solutions.

The property manager, on the other hand, has information about the housing association’s financial situation, debts, renovation planning and development of the consideration. They are also part of the value of the apartment, so high-quality hosting is also a way to keep the value high.

For many, an apartment is the biggest financial investment in life. The best way to maintain its value is to join the board of the housing association and to maintain an open dialogue with your property manager and his teams responsible for financial and technical matters.

You shouldn’t forget about healthy challenges either.
