Is there any other field where an employer is required to pay wages to two employees at the same time for work that neither does?
On the opinion page a debate has begun again about the right of teachers to return to “work” from medical leave for the summer. In my friend’s case, the office holder he replaced even returned to “work” during the winter vacation, thus taking away my friend’s winter vacation pay. The Education Association (OAJ) defends the arrangement by explaining that the municipality should pay both the substitute and the teacher compensation for vacation time.
Is there any other field where an employer is required to pay wages to two employees at the same time for work that neither does? There is a simple solution to the current situation. The teacher must have the right to return to work for the summer months, but the municipality must then have the right to employ him in a kindergarten, playground or school children’s summer camp activities.
