Reader opinion The Vantaa River could become a significant river for salmon and sea trout

Helsingin Sanomat in the story (Economy 15.1.) Attention was drawn to the fact that the Finnish state, through the ownership rights of electricity companies, is involved in inventing ways to prevent the success and reproduction of migratory fish in the huge Kemijoki River, among other places.

However, right next to us, the city of Helsinki does not agree to demolish the dam on the western branch of Vanhankaupunginkoski in the same style. This sounds like a small thing, but in Vantaanjoki the spawning densities and yields of migratory fish are much higher than in the north due to the long heat sum.

After restoration, the Vantaanjoki could be a very significant salmon and sea trout river. Of course, the location of the Vantaanjoki River in the urban environment also has considerable weight compared to the rivers in the north.
